Question by teachrzpet1: Question for podiatrist?weird foot pain while exercising?
This is a problem that has been bothering me for many years?but whenever I look online for medical information about this foot pain, there is never anything that really matches my problem. Whenever I exercise, the sides of my feet cramp up and make it extremely uncomfortable. Yoga, tae-bo?it doesn?t matter?with supportive shoes or barefoot?the most uncomfortable part of the workout is the cramping in my feet. It is especially obvious whenever I put on rollerblades and try to skate. I could skate for hours?except that within minutes, both sides of my feet (toward the bottom) are cramping up and just throb uncomfortably until I stop. All of the websites I?ve found, describe lots of different areas of foot pain, but no one ever seems to address the pain where it occurs for me.
So I am wondering what precisely is this caused by..or if anyone else has experienced this? Thank you for your input in advance!

Muscle cramps have two causes that I know of. The first has to do with diet. Too high blood sugar and not enough salt intake is a definite possibility, especially if you are very active. Being active causes you to sweat and loose the salt in your body which needs to be replaced. Have your doctor do a simple blood test to determine if this is needed. Second is the foot muscles themselves. Although you try to excersize barefoot occasionally, you probably live the rest of your life shod. Wearing shoes constantly, with all the support and cushoning causes atrophy in the foot and leg muscles. Overdependancy on shoes has too many detrimental effects to list but the following sites can get you started on learning what they are. You should do more activities barefoot in order to develope the muscles in your feet. Like any other muscle in your body, they will get sore untill they get properly conditioned, Slowly work through the soreness and you?ll have healthier and stronger feet. Good luck.
P.S. If the cramping continues only while wearing shoes, get a better fitting pair.
