Rubinstein to lead SOLT

Independent producer Mark Rubinstein has been appointed prexy of the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), the trade association representing producers, theater owners and managers of the major commercial and not-for-profits in the West End. He succeeds outgoing topper Nica Burns. The move is a break with recent tradition, as all recent appointments to the three-year post have been theater owners. A former finance director of the Royal Court Theater, Rubinstein's current productions include the West End transfer of "War Horse," the recently opened "Butley" and the National Theater production of "Fela!" transferring to dance house Sadler's Wells this summer. "I believe my appointment represents an opportunity to look after interests of independent producers at a point when the industry is becoming ever more conglomerate," he told Daily Variety. "Theater ownership chains are bigger than ever before, and in a world where all sides need to be looked after and represented it's good for the health of the industry as a whole that we should all work together."
