Today?s Bottom Line column:Irene Ettre didn?t overlook anything, including travel insurance, when she paid $4,000 in March for an ambitious 10-day trip through Prague, Vienna and Budapest.
What she didn?t consider was whether, at age 83 and limited by a stroke and several mini-strokes, she could physically make the trip.
?I realized almost immediately that I could not travel,? she says.
So Ettre, who so dearly hoped to see her late husband?s home country, Hungary, called it off. Luckily, she had that travel insurance. She contacted the local travel agency, New Horizons Travel of Durham, which quickly refunded $2,150. The remainder, minus a 25 percent fee according to the travel-insurance contract, would come from Brendan Vacations, the travel company the local agency used to book the tour.
