?Things like milk and cheese are very complex substances,? said Stella Aslibekyan, a graduate student in community health at Brown University and author of the study, published in advance online May 4 in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Disease. ?We looked at [the risk of heart attack and] dairy products in their entirety and then looked at separate components of such dairy products, including fats, and it turns out that the results are zero. Perhaps there is proof.?Rather than suggest that saturated fat in dairy products are safe, and co-author Aslibekyan Ana Baylin, assistant professor of community health at Brown University, suggested that other nutrients in dairy products are protective against heart disease, but for all perhaps the highest quintile of consumption of dairy products in their study. Potentially beneficial nutrients include calcium, vitamin D, potassium, magnesium and conjugated linoleic acid .
Baylin in complexity of nutritional dairy products to that of eggs, which were once a source of concern to consumers for their high cholesterol content, but now are considered more complex because they, too, apparently protective nutrients .
?The message is that it is important to examine the net effect of whole foods and eating habits, not only isolated nutrients? Baylin said.
They divided the study population between two equal groups: 1815 ?cases? who had non-fatal heart attacks in 1815 and comparable ?controls? who did not.00 and 17.00, in their bodies.
Dairy products are high in harmful saturated fats, but not necessarily a risk to the heart. A recent publication of thousands of adults in Costa Rica found that their levels of consumption of dairy products had nothing to do with the statistical risk of a heart attack.
