This October 15th, First TOCFL Speaking and Writing Formal Test

For those of you who are not native speakers of Chinese, there is good news for you all. Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP) will hold The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) Speaking and Writing formal tests. This test will be held on October 15 this year, and you can register to participate until 23 September 2011.

Mandarin language refers to standard Chinese, often called simply ?Chinese?. It is the official spoken language of the People?s Republic of China (PRC), including Taiwan.

Formal launch of this test will be held at the National Taiwan Normal University and National Taipei University of Education, both located in northern Taiwan, and National Cheng Kung University in southern Taiwan.

Before launching the first formal test, the SC-TOP will also organize Pilot Test of TOCFL. If you are interested in following this pilot test, you should immediately register as of today, 14 September 2011 is the last day of registration. Pilot tests will be held on October 1, 2011.

To celebrate the official launch of TOCFL Formal Test, SC-TOP provides campaigns with only costs 1.800 Taiwan Dollar (about US$ 61,31) to take both tests, the normal fee is 2,400 Taiwan Dollar (about US$ 81,75). Test Speaking and Writing tests each cost 1.200 Taiwan Dollar. This Speaking and Writing formal tests includes the Beginner and Learner level. Participants who pass Beginner level will get certificates A2 and participants who pass Learner level will get certificates B1. There are four levels in the TOCFL: Beginner, Learner, Superior, and Master.

TOCFL Writing for Beginner level will test the ability of participants in writing short passages, notes, or simple personal letters describing personal experiences, using phrases and sentences properly connected. As for the level of Learner, participants will be tested its ability to describe experiences, feeling or reactions of/toward concrete / abstract events or topics. Participants are also expected can write personal letters to Convey life-related messages in detail.

While TOCFL Speaking for Beginner level test the ability of participants in the describe people, life, living or working conditions, daily routines, likes and dislikes or in a simple way. He / She can describe a coherent story with simple phrases and sentences. For Learner level, participants are expected can make a direct description and coherent of a topic related to experience in a logic and fluent way. He / She can give comment on books or movies, and describe dreams, expectations, and hopes, also describe the real and imaginary events.

For your information, Mandarin is the official language in China, including Taiwan. Mandarin language and Cantonese use the same written characters, so people who understand only either Mandarin language or Cantonese can communicate each other by writing. If you need to learn Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mandarin is recommended.
